Tragedy has hit the Connecticut football team.

Jasper Howard, a junior starting cornerback for the Huskies, died Sunday morning after a fatal on-campus stabbing only hours after the team's win over Louisville on Saturday.

According to the Hartford Courant, which first reported the story, Howard was stabbed after a fight broke out shortly after midnight near the campus' student union center. Howard was airlifted to a nearby hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries. A second person was also stabbed, but was treated and released.

The perpetrator of the stabbing is still at large.

Howard had 11 tackles in the Huskies' 38-25 win over Louisville on Saturday afternoon and also forced and recovered a fumble.

Connecticut is scheduled to play on the road at West Virginia on Saturday, before returning home for the first time on Halloween against Rutgers.
