$200 Million Winning Lottery Ticket Bought In Shenandoah Valley

Somewhere there is a small slip of paper that has suddenly become incredibly valuable.

That slip of paper is a Mega Millions ticket with the numbers 10-13-18-33-51 and the Mega Ball number 43.

Those were the winning numbers in the October 16, 2009, Mega Millions drawing. That small piece of paper is now worth an estimated $200 million!

A Mega Millions lottery ticket purchased in the Town of Shenandoah wins an estimated $200 million.

The ticket was purchased at Valley's, located at 601 4th Street in Shenandoah, Virginia.

The person or persons who have that ticket now have 180 days to claim that mega-prize. The store that sold the ticket is also a winner - it will receive a $50,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery.

Mega Millions has been hot in Virginia this year. This is the third jackpot winner of 2009 in the Commonwealth. On May 1, Joe Denette of Spotsylvania County won $75.6 million (he selected the cash option of $47.8 million) and on May 15, Joe and Sue Claffy of Rappahannock County won a $19 million jackpot (they chose the cash option of $11.5 million).

Nearly 95 cents of each dollar spent on the Virginia Lottery by players goes back to the Commonwealth in the form of contributions to education, prizes and retailer commissions. Since 1999, all Virginia Lottery profits have been designated solely to K-12 public school education in the Commonwealth.

In that time, the Lottery has turned over more than $4 billion for Virginia's public schools. The latest annual profits of $439.1 million currently represent about 6 percent of state funding for public education in Virginia. In 21 years, the Lottery has sold more than $21.1 billion in tickets, awarded more than $1.1 billion in retailer commissions and paid more than $11.6 billion in prizes to players.
